The Department of Kayachikitsa is a core clinical branch of Ayurveda that deals with the diagnosis, management and comprehensive treatment of a wide spectrum of systemic diseases. Rooted in classical Ayurvedic principles and strengthened by contemporary clinical approaches, the department emphasizes understanding of Roga-Rogi Pareeksha, Dosha-Dushya Sammurchana, Samprapti and Chikitsa Siddhanta. Kayachikitsa focuses on individualized and holistic patient care through modalities such as Shamana Chikitsa, Shodhana,, Rasayana therapies, dietary regulations, psychological counselling and lifestyle modifications.

The department plays a vital role in equipping scholars with deep clinical knowledge, diagnostic skills and hands-on therapeutic training to manage acute and chronic disorders such as Metabolic disorders, Neurological diseases, Autoimmune conditions, Skin disorders, Gastrointestinal diseases, Respiratory illnesses and lifestyle-related health concerns.

 

About the Department

The department is supported by a well-equipped clinical setup that includes:

  • Special OPDs for various chronic diseases.
  • A 100-bedded hospital with dedicated Kayachikitsa wards having 35 beds specially dedicated to Kayachikitsa.
  • Well-equipped Panchakarma therapy units.
  • Laboratory and diagnostic services
  • Yoga & lifestyle counselling unit.
  • Adequate clinical material for research and dissertation work.
  • Free medicines are provided to all OPD and IPD patients through the hospital pharmacy, ensuring accessible and uninterrupted Ayurvedic healthcare service

About the Postgraduate Department of Kayachikitsa

The Postgraduate Department of Kayachikitsa was established in the year 2000 to impart advanced training, clinical excellence and research proficiency in internal medicine. The department provides a structured and comprehensive learning environment aligned with the standards of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru.

Established with the purpose of advancing Ayurvedic clinical education, the Postgraduate Department of Kayachikitsa at Dr. BNM Rural Ayurvedic Medical College, Hospital & PG Research Centre, Vijayapur is committed to fostering academic excellence, clinical mastery and research innovation. The department provides an enriching learning environment where students gain exposure to a wide spectrum of clinical conditions, participate in inpatient and outpatient management and engage deeply in hands-on Panchakarma therapies and lifestyle-based treatments.

Postgraduate scholars actively participate in out-patient and in-patient care, special clinical units, emergency management, Panchakarma procedures and Camps, ensuring hands-on learning and confidence in handling diverse clinical cases. They present seminars, case reports, clinical studies, and research findings regularly, enhancing both academic competence and communication skills.

PG scholars from this department have successfully contributed to clinical practice, academics and ongoing Ayurvedic research across various institutions in India.
