Event:- SAMSKARA – PG Orientation Programme (Transformation to Proficient Scholars)
Date:- 02/01/2026 to 19/01/2026
Introduction
The PG Orientation Program – “Samskara” was organized at Dr. B.N.M. Rural Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Bijapur, from 2nd to 19th January 2026.
The main objective of this program was to guide and support the newly joined 1st year PG’s towards the clinical, academic, administrative and ethical aspects of their Post-graduation study – a crucial bridge for Transforming the Graduates into Proficient scholars.
The PG Orientation Programmme included life skills, personality development, computer skills, e-management skills, communication skills, Code of conduct, campus behaviour as well as presentation skills.
The program aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application by introducing the PGs to hospital procedures, documentation, research skills and patient care responsibilities.
All the faculty members of various departments actively participated and contributed their valuable knowledge through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on sessions.
Program Schedule and Highlights
Day 1 – 2nd January 2026
The program began with inaugural function attended by the Chief guest Dr J C Huddar, Principal, Dean, PG Director, Teaching faculty and PG scholars.
Followed by welcoming the newly joined PG scholars, motivation to the PGs by Dr J C Huddar Sir, a brief about the Institutional profile was explained by Dr Amrutha Kaggod and Presidential address by the Principal Dr Prasad Vastrad Sir.
Day 2 – 3rd January 2026
The programme began with a Pre-test conducted by Dr. Rohin to assess the baseline knowledge of PG scholars. This was followed by a “Know Your Campus” session by Dr. Prashant Koppa, familiarizing students with institutional facilities. In the afternoon, Departmental Introduction sessions were conducted by the respective Heads of Departments, providing an overview of departmental functioning, academics and clinical activities.
Day 3 – 5th January 2026
The morning session on Self-learning, Collaborative Learning and Lifelong Learning Strategies was delivered by Dr. Pratibha Koppa, emphasizing modern learning approaches. The afternoon session by Dr. Meghavati Awati introduced national research organizations such as NCISM, CCRAS and RAV, highlighting their roles in Ayurveda education and research.
Day 4 – 6th January 2026
In the morning, Dr. R. S. Kadkol gave an overview of the PG structure, curriculum, subjects, pattern of study and assessment methods. The afternoon session by Dr. Savita Metri focused on PG student-related committees and research ethics bodies including IEC, IRC and IRB.
Day 5 – 7th January 2026
Dr. Suchitra Kalyanshetti conducted a session on Academic Activities and Presentation Skills in the morning. The afternoon session on Stress Management, Yoga, Meditation, Relaxation Techniques, Health Awareness, Fitness and Hygiene was taken by Dr. Manjula Patil.
Day 6 – 8th January 2026
A workshop on Computer Skills and E-management was conducted in the morning by Phadtare Sir. In the afternoon, Dr. S. J. Kurundawade spoke on the Rights and Responsibilities of PG Scholars, Time Management, Dream Building and Goal Setting.
Day 7 – 9th January 2026
The morning session on Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) was delivered by Dr. Buranoddin Kudachi. In the afternoon, a motivational talk on Scope, Prospects and Opportunities in the field of Ayurveda was given by Dr. Shrinivas Vadeyar.
Day 8 – 10th January 2026
The morning session included exposure to Department-specific Laboratories and the Herbal Garden by Dr. Iranna Sajjan. The afternoon visit to Central Research Facility, Quality Testing Laboratory and Animal House was guided by Dr. Himabindu.
Day 9 – 12th January 2026
Dr. Basavaraj Bhinge explained Institutional Policies including leave rules, medical care facilities and hospital SOPs in the morning. The afternoon session on Learning Resources such as Library, Digital Library, E-learning resources and Simulation/Skill Labs was conducted by Mr. Shrishail Hiremath.
Day 13th January 2026
A session on Pharmacovigilance was delivered by Dr. Shirin in the morning, followed by a Post-test conducted by Dr. Rohin to assess learning outcomes.
Day 19th January 2026
Valedictory Function
The valedictory programme was organized by Dr. Ashwini Hosamani. The Chief Guest, Dr. S. P. Managoli Sir, delivered a motivational address to the PG scholars. The function was graced by the presence of the Principal, Dr. Prasad Vastrad, and the PG Director, Dr. Suchitra Kalyanshetti. A brief report of the SAMSKARA PG Orientation Programme was presented by Dr. Kavya Laxmeshwar.
Outcome of the Programme
- PG scholars gained a clear understanding of the PG curriculum, pattern of study, assessment system and academic activities.
- Orientation to institutional infrastructure, departments, laboratories, herbal garden, central research facilities and animal house enhanced practical and research awareness
- Improved knowledge about national research bodies such as NCISM, CCRAS and RAV and their role in higher education and research.
- Awareness regarding research ethics, IEC, IRC and IRB and their importance in conducting ethical research.
- Enhanced learning skills through sessions on self-learning, collaborative learning and lifelong learning strategies.
- Development of presentation, communication and computer skills including e-management.
- Better understanding of institutional policies, rights and responsibilities of PG scholars, and administrative procedures.
- Exposure to ABDM and pharmacovigilance strengthened knowledge of digital health and drug safety.
- Improved time management, goal setting and career planning through motivational and guidance sessions.
- Promotion of physical and mental well-being through stress management, yoga, meditation, fitness and hygiene awareness.
- Pre-test and post-test analysis showed improved overall orientation, confidence and preparedness among PG scholars for their postgraduate journey.
Conclusion
The SAMSKARA PG Orientation Programme was comprehensive and well-structured, addressing academic, research, clinical, administrative and personal development aspects of postgraduate training. The active participation of distinguished resource persons and faculty members made the programme highly informative and motivating. The orientation achieved its objective of instilling confidence, clarity of roles and responsibilities, and a positive outlook among the PG scholars, thereby laying a strong foundation for their successful academic and professional journey in Ayurveda.
